SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT
“Engineering the future of the sea through responsible innovation and uncompromised quality.”
At SIC–DIVISIONE ELETTRONICA S.R.L. (SIC Navy), our legacy of over 30 years in the marine industry is built on a profound respect for the ocean. We recognize that as a manufacturer, our responsibility extends beyond the performance of our components; it encompasses the entire environmental life cycle of our products. Our sustainability strategy is integrated into our core business model, focusing on resource efficiency, material innovation, and the support of the global transition toward cleaner maritime propulsion.
1. Advanced Materials Science: Beyond Standard Polymers
The choice of materials is the primary driver of environmental impact in marine manufacturing. We have moved beyond traditional materials to adopt high-performance technopolymers that define the standard for eco-durability:
- XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) Engineering: Unlike standard plastics, our cross-linked polymers are designed for extreme longevity. By significantly extending the replacement cycle of fuel and water tanks (to over 25 years), we drastically reduce the volume of industrial waste generated by the nautical sector.
- Zero-Permeation Technology: Our advanced polyamides act as a molecular barrier. This prevents the “sweating” of fuel vapors (hydrocarbon permeation) into the hull and atmosphere, exceeding the stringent EPA/CARB regulations and protecting marine air and water quality.
- Total Recyclability: We operate a recovery protocol for high-density polymers. At the end of a vessel’s life, our tanks are 100% recyclable, capable of being mechanicaly processed into new raw materials for non-critical industrial applications.
2. Pioneering the Naval Electrification Era
As the maritime world shifts toward hybrid and fully electric propulsion, SIC Navy is at the forefront of the electronic revolution:
- The SicTronic Storage Revolution: Our latest innovation, SicTronic, is a high-efficiency energy storage system. By enabling smarter energy management, it allows vessels to operate on “silent mode” (battery only), eliminating CO2 emissions and noise pollution in sensitive coastal areas and protected marine reserves.
- Universal Inverter Integration: We design our electronics to be “agnostic” and universally compatible. This facilitates the integration of renewable energy sources (solar panels, hydro-generators) into existing vessel grids, reducing the operational carbon footprint of any yacht.
- High-Precision Monitoring: Our digital gauges and NMEA 2000 sensors provide real-time data that allow captains to optimize fuel consumption and energy usage, promoting a more conscious and efficient navigation style.
3. Industrial Ethics & Manufacturing Excellence
Sustainability is not just about the product; it is about how it is made. Our production facility in Lecce, Italy, follows an “Efficiency-First” philosophy:
- Closed-Loop Rotational Molding: Our molding process is nearly waste-free. Any raw material overflow during the CAD-to-Mold phase is collected, reground, and repurposed, ensuring that zero plastic waste leaves our production floor.
- Energy-Smart Production: We have optimized our industrial ovens and electronic assembly lines to operate with high energy efficiency, reducing the Kilowatt-per-unit ratio of every tank and sensor manufactured.
- 24-Hour Integrity Testing: Every tank undergoes a rigorous 24-hour pressure test. While this is a quality standard, it is also an environmental safeguard: ensuring 100% leak-proof performance means zero risk of fuel or black water contamination in our oceans.
4. SOLAS Safety: Reducing Electronic Waste
In the safety sector, sustainability means reliability. Our SOLAS MED approved emergency lights (Asteria, Conqueror, Revenge) are designed with high-efficiency LED technology and long-life batteries. By providing products that exceed safety expiration standards and resist salt-corrosion, we prevent the premature disposal of emergency electronics, which contain materials that are difficult to recycle.
5. Our 2030 Vision: The Blue Horizon
SIC Navy is committed to an evolving sustainability roadmap:
- Logistics Optimization: Implementing “Flat-Pack” shipping strategies and localized distribution to reduce the carbon emissions associated with global maritime logistics.
- Research into Bio-Polymers: Our R&D department is currently testing next-generation resins derived from renewable biological sources to further decrease our reliance on fossil-fuel-based polymers.
- Water Stewardship: Implementing advanced water filtration systems within our manufacturing plant to ensure that our industrial footprint remains isolated from the local ecosystem.
6. Transparent Collaboration
We believe in “Co-Sustainability.” We work closely with shipyards and designers to create integrated systems that make the final vessel lighter, more efficient, and easier to recycle. For SIC Navy, quality is the most honest form of sustainability.
